THE WAY AHEAD - How the China-Laos Railway Changed Lives

The China-Laos Railway is a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative. It's also a landmark in bilateral cooperation and a symbol of the friendship between the two countries. On May 1, 2022, the China-Laos Railway marks 150 days of operation. In that time, it is estimated to have transported well over two million passengers within China and Laos and around a million and a half tons of freight. So, let's witness how the China-Laos Railway has changed the lives of the people living along it.


Basantapur Rising From the Rubble 

On April 25, 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal near the capital city of Kathmandu, destroying hundreds of heritage monuments across the Himalayan nation. The Nepali government was in dire need of foreign assistance to help with reconstruction. BASANTAPUR RISING FROM THE RUBBLE tells the story of a group of Chinese heritage restorers helping the Nepalese to bring back the nine-storeyed Basantapur tower and complex. Located at Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Basantapur complex was built by the first king of the Shah dynasty in 1770. It was the royal palace of Hindu kings. Its wood sculptures and carvings have religious and cultural significance. It was severely damaged and deformed by the earthquake. Coming from a different cultural background, how are the Chinese working with Nepali craftsmen to restore the monument against all odds? What are the difficulties and what are the unexpected fun? Will the centuries-old Newari architecture resume its glory before the earthquake?
