On February 23, the seventh day of the Chinese New Year of the Horse, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Munich and the Internationale Jugendbibliothek (IJB) jointly held a Chinese-German Children's Book Reading event to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Horse in the Christa-Spangenberg-Saal of the IJB.

Nearly 40 Chinese and German children and their parents from local communities, overseas Chinese communities and Chinese language schools in Bavaria participated enthusiastically. Consul General Qiu Xuejun and Dr. Christiane Raabe, Director of the IJB, delivered brief speeches respectively, extending their New Year’s greetings to the audience from both China and Germany, and expressing their hope that the event would play a positive role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and Germany, and between China and Bavaria, as well as the friendship between the two peoples.

Chinese and German readers recited the ancient Chinese poem "New Year's Day" and "The Cicada and the Old Ox" by contemporary Chinese children's book author Cao Wenxuan, which resonated strongly with the audience.
