Distinguished leaders of the overseas Chinese community,
Dear fellow compatriots, Good afternoon!
The overseas Chinese community in Bavaria holds this symposium today with the theme of the Taiwan question and national reunification - a matter of great concern to our compatriots living abroad.
On April 10, 2026, General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, metwith Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party and delivered an important speech on cross-strait relations. He pointed out that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the Chinese nation. The Chinese people of all ethnic groups including Taiwan compatriots have jointly built a unified, multi-ethnic nation; jointly written the glorious history of China; jointly created the splendid Chinese civilization; and jointly nurtured the great national spirit. They have also jointly forged the shared belief that the territory cannot be divided, the country cannot be destabilized, the nation cannot be separated, and the civilization cannot be interrupted. No matter how the international landscape and the situation across the Taiwan Strait may evolve, the overarching trend toward the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will not change, and the prevailing momentum bringing the Chinese on both sides of the Strait closer together will not change.
Both the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, and China is the common home of the Chinese nation. For compatriots on both sides of the strait to safeguard and build this common home, the fundamental principle lies in upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing “Taiwan independence”, the core is recognizing that both sides of the Strait belong to one China. “Taiwan independence” is the chief culprit undermining peace across the Taiwan Strait; we will never condone or tolerate it. The Communist Party of China and the Chinese Kuomintang, as well as compatriots on both sides of the Strait, must uphold the greater good of the nation, oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and external interference, promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and resolutely safeguard the common home of the Chinese nation. General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward four points regarding the development of cross-strait relations: upholding a correct sense of identity to foster a spiritual bond; upholding peaceful development to safeguard our shared homeland; upholding exchanges and integration to enhance the well-being of the people; and upholding unity and hard work to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech takes into account both the strategic overall situation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the profound changes the world has not seen in a century. Grasping the general trend of history and global development, and focusing on the overall interests and long-term development of the Chinese nation, the speech is visionary and rich in substance. It further charts the course for the development of cross-strait relations and serves as the fundamental guideline and action plan for handling cross-strait relations in the new era. The speech embodies a sense of mission and historical responsibility to seek peace for both sides of the Strait, well-being for our compatriots, and rejuvenation for the nation. Every word is imbued with sincere care and deep affection for our compatriots in Taiwan. It has resonated strongly with Chinese people both at home and abroad, garnered a warm response from the international community, and has a significant and far-reaching impact on the future trajectory of cross-strait relations.
The overseas Chinese community in Bavaria has always upheld fine traditions of patriotism, solidarity, and mutual assistance. For many years, members of the Chinese community have actively engaged in efforts to oppose “Taiwan independence” and promote national reunification, actively fostering the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and making their own positive contributions to the great cause of national reunification. In March 2025, 13 major overseas Chinese organizations in Bavaria - including the Chinese Business Association of Bavaria, the Nuremberg Association of Chinese Restaurateurs and Businesspeople, and the Munich Huaxing Art Troupe etc., issued a joint statement commemorating the 20th anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Anti-Secession Law, stating: “ The overseas Chinese communities in Bavaria have always firmly supported the Anti-Secession Law and resolutely opposed any form of ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities.” This statement gave voice to the righteous sentiments of the overseas Chinese community in Germany and effectively expressed solidarity with and support for the great cause of China’s reunification.
The world today is fraught with turmoil and far from peaceful. At present, Taiwan is plagued by incessant internal strife, with undercurrents of “de-Sinicization” surging beneath the surface. The Taiwan authorities’ attempts to confuse public opinion with a “Taiwan independence” historical narrative and their delusional efforts to obstruct the reunification of the motherland are nothing more than a futile struggle, doomed to self-destruction. The historical trend toward China’s reunification will not change, and the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable. All of you here today are outstanding representatives of overseas Chinese communities, as well as witnesses, participants, and promoters of China-Germany and China-state of Bavaria relations. It’s hoped that you will deeply grasp the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech, continue to uphold the fine traditions of patriotism, solidarity, and support for national reunification, and pool your individual contributions into a mighty force for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, thereby contributing to the great cause of national reunification. Let us work together in the following areas:
First, remain unwavering in our opposition to “Taiwan independence” and our commitment to promoting reunification. Firmly oppose any form of “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. We should introduce the historical context of the One-China Principle to all sectors of local society, clearly explaining that the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests; that adherence to the One-China policy is the political prerequisite and foundation for the development of China-Germany relations; and that China’s reunification is a historical inevitability, and supporting this great cause is a wise move that serves the broader interests of the friendly relations between China and Germany, as well as between China and the state of Bavaria. We should continue to support and guide all sectors of local society to earnestly uphold the One-China policy and support the great cause of China’s reunification.
Second, serve as a bridge connecting cross-strait exchanges and the bonds of kinship among compatriots. Overseas Chinese in the local community, whether from the mainland or the island of Taiwan, are all relatives and compatriots sharing the same roots, the same culture, and the same bloodline. Our overseas compatriots should effectively share stories about China and the bonds between people on both sides of the Strait, highlighting that compatriots on both sides belong to the Chinese nation, are all Chinese, and are one family. We should widely seek the understanding and recognition of local Chinese communities - especially our Taiwanese compatriots - regarding the principle that both sides belong to one China, thereby enhancing the well-being and familial bonds among compatriots on both sides. We should also educate and guide the new generation of Chinese descendants and the “second generation of overseas Chinese”, strengthening the spiritual connection rooted in shared bloodlines, as well as their sense of national and Chinese identity.
Third, be active promoters of friendly cooperation between China and Germany, and between China and the state of Bavaria. It is hoped that the vast number of local overseas Chinese will continue to carry forward the fine traditions of the Chinese nation, actively integrate into, serve, and contribute to local society, present a positive image, promote people-to-people exchanges, and enhance mutual understanding between the two sides. It is hoped that all of you will continue to advance China-Germany and China-state of Bavaria friendly cooperation, strengthen the bonds of shared interests, and make positive contributions to advancing the great cause of national reunification and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, as well as to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
